A group of ten students from the Academy were delighted to be the recipients of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award.
In order to gain the award the students had to work through five sections of the programme over several months during which they had to prove themselves to be great team members, leaders, decision makers and compassionate individuals.
Taking part in the programme saw the students complete a physical task and undertake voluntary service in the local community. Further, they had to complete the challenge of an expedition where the students were required to demonstrate their skills in orienteering and outdoor survival.
Award Leader Mrs Walsh commented: “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offers all our students the chance to challenge themselves, learn new skills, build confidence, experience the outdoors and give back to their local community through volunteering opportunities.”
Completing the Award demonstrates students’ skills, determination and mental agility. In acknowledging their achievement the students are able to wear their D of E badge as part of their Academy uniform.
