National Poetry Day is an annual celebration that inspires people throughout the United Kingdom to enjoy, discover and share poems. Academy students marked the day, which was held on 28th September, by taking part in poetry based activities within their English lessons.
Mrs Pringle, English teacher, organised lesson activities for our students across all year groups. These gave students the opportunity to explore poetry in various ways. Everyone was invited to discuss what freedom meant to them and create their very own poem, inspired by this year’s theme.
Once completed students are invited to post their favourite line from their poem on social media using the hashtag #NationalPoetryDay. They can also enter the Academy’s poetry competition. Entries will be judged by staff from the English department and the entrants of winning poems will receive a prize.
