For the third year running the Academy was delighted to welcome visitors to our fabulous joint brass band and choir concert.
In an evening of popular musical entertainment visitors to the Academy were able to enjoy the sounds of Altofts and Normanton Brass Band with wonderful musical performances from the Academy’s choir led by Music teacher, Mrs Cassells.
The concert programme featured brass pieces including “Blaze Away” and “The Caliph of Bagdad.” The choir performed songs including “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” and featured some outstanding solo vocals.
The grand finale came with a rousing rendition of “New York, New York” to which the audience joined in with great enthusiasm.
At the end of the concert members of the choir presented Mrs Cassells with a bouquet of flowers and a handmade card which each member of the choir had signed.
Mrs Cassells, who is leaving the Academy at the end of the summer term, said: “This was a fantastic evening to finish my time here at Thornhill. I will miss working with the choir and the many students with such amazing musical talent.”
The Academy is extremely grateful to Mrs Cassells for organising the event, the Altofts and Normanton Brass Band and the students of the Thornhill Community Academy Choir for providing such a wonderful evening’s entertainment.
Please check the Academy’s website for details of future events.
