We are really proud of our students for the 2017 GCSE results. Overall students made a quarter of a grade more progress on average than the 2016 Year 11 cohort and the headline figure of A*-C in English and Maths has increased by 9% overall.
Many curriculum areas achieved outstanding A*-C results: Biology 100%, Chemistry 100%, Physics 100%, Geography78%, Spanish 75%, Urdu 83%, PE VCert 84%, RE 100%, Resistant Materials 71%, ICT GCSE 83%, ICT BTEC 100%, Business 100%
Many students achieved some outstanding grades and made really good progress, over 86% of students achieved at least one A*/A grade.
There were some outstanding student performances:
The highest attaining students included Zak Ansari, Marc Kennedy, Aamenah Mulla, Haadiyah Dadipatel, Mia Greenlees-Smith, Zak Jogee, Emily Rawson and Muhammad Raza.
Outstanding progress was also made by Ben Green, Zak Greenwood, Sanah Mahmood, Hassnain Mohammed, Saif Ullah and Usaamah Umarji.
The excellent examination results highlighted above reflect the high-quality teaching and learning that takes place at Thornhill Community Academy, as well as the hard work of our wonderful students and their ability to achieve, whatever their circumstance or starting point.
Ms Matthews commented “It’s been lovely to celebrate some real successes with our students this morning after all staff and students’ hard work and commitment over the last two years. We have had some outstanding individual results with a number of students attaining a string of A/A*s and 7-9s whilst other students have made excellent progress over 5 years to achieve the results they have received today. They can all feel incredibly proud and we wish them well for their futures.”
