This BTEC course is designed to give you a flavour of the world of work and is suited to anyone interested in a career related to health and social care. You will develop knowledge and understanding about health, social care and early years.
The course offers you the chance to work in a new, challenging and stimulating way developing the skills and qualities that employers regard as important.
There are 4 units:
Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development
Health, Social Care and Early Years Workers need to know about the different ways that people grow and develop during their lives. This unit looks at human growth and development across the life stages - infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and the elderly. You will also look at factors affecting their development.
Unit 2 –Health and Social care values
You will explore the care values that underpin work in health and social care professions.
Unit 5- Promoting Health and Wellbeing
This unit gives you the opportunity to devise health promotion materials.
We will then do one of the following:
Unit 6 – Impact of Nutrition
This develops your understanding of good nutrition and planning healthy diets.
Unit 3 - Effective Communication in Health and Social Care
This unit looks at the vital skills for workers.
This course is graded Level 2 PASS, MERIT, DISTINCTION or DISTINCTION *. Each unit carries 25% of the marks and the marks for all 4 units are added together to decide your final grade.
Unit 1 - This unit is assessed by an external written examination and accounts for 25% of the final marks. The other 3 units are assessed through a controlled assessment by presenting a portfolio of evidence to match the assessment criteria for the unit.
Learning is through ‘doing’ and has a work related theme.
