As we approach the end of another term, it is a good time to reflect on what our students and staff have achieved in their Spiritual Moral Social Cultural Development throughout the year. This term we have successfully completed our Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 SMSCD days, which have all been highly regarded throughout the Academy.
We have welcomed a range of guest speakers, including Dr Chris Newton, from Speakers4Schools, who led a session surrounding careers and raising aspirations. We also welcomed Talk the Talk who took a selection of our Year 11 students by storm with their workshop focusing on improving connections with potential employers, learning to speak confidently and purposefully, and boosting confidence and self-esteem.
We have seen a huge influx of our own talented staff taking on the role of leading our SMSCD Sessions.
Mrs Walsh led a fantastic and engaging session focusing on team building skills during which the students jumped in, literally, feet first, taking part in activities such as building a human crane.
First-Aid, led by our Student Welfare Officer, Mrs Griffiths was also a huge hit, with the students learning vital life skills such as the recovery position, CPR and the Heimlich manoeuvre.
Our Year 11 students learned how to deal with their exam stresses by taking a Stress Management and Well-being session led by Miss Holmes. They learned how to deal with the exam pressures through meditation and engaging their senses in a more positive manner.
We have had a big careers focus throughout the SMSCD Days, with sessions focusing on employability skills, revision skills, raising aspirations, UCAS applications and interview preparation, led by our fantastic Lead Practitioners, Careers Team and Teaching Staff. These sessions have enabled our students to develop the relevant skills they will require when applying for College, Sixth-Form or an Apprenticeship. We hope this will give our students the best possible opportunities when they go on to further their education and careers.
We would love to thank our wonderful staff and external agencies for all their hard work, we know it takes a lot of forward planning to make these days successful and we couldn’t do it without you. Here’s to the rest of our sessions in 2018!
