Year 8 Student, Amena Shaikh, recently competed in the Young Chef District Final at Betty’s Cookery School in Harrogate. Sponsored by individual Rotary Clubs, the young people taking part came from Settle, Grimsby, Sherburn, Boroughbridge, Dewsbury and York.
Having come through the previous local heat held at St. John Fishers School, Amena had beaten over 100 other students to get to Harrogate and again served up a treat going up against competitors older than herself.
The young Chefs were asked to produce a three-course healthy meal on a limited budget of £15 within a two-hour time frame. Marks were awarded for a variety of skills from choice of menu, planning, hygiene to the taste and presentation of the meal. The standards of cooking and presentation were of a very high standard.
Unfortunately she did not get to the next phase of the competition but enjoyed the experience immensely.
