Academy Students Engage in Interfaith Dialogue with Local Faith Leaders
Students from the Academy studying Religious Education for the GCSE award had an enriching experience as they posed questions to local faith leaders in an interfaith panel discussion. The event, aimed at broadening students’ understanding of different religious beliefs and practices, welcomed Maulana Farook Yunis, Rev. Chris Hawke, a Methodist minister, and David Currie from Kirklees Interfaith.
The panellists took part in a dynamic question and answer session, allowing students the experience of engaging directly with representatives from the local faith community. This interaction complemented their studies, which focus on both Christianity and Islam, emphasising the relevance of faith in contemporary society.
By inviting local faith leaders to join the conversation, students had a valuable opportunity to ask questions that deepened their understanding of the topics they had been studying. Discussion with the panellists enabled students to recognise what motivates people from different faiths and to highlight the similarities we share in common.
This initiative not only enhances the students' academic curriculum but also fosters an environment of understanding and respect among different faith communities. The Academy continues to prioritise such interactions, recognising the importance of interfaith dialogue in today’s multicultural society.
