  • Community Iftar 2025

    We are hosting our second annual Community Iftar on the evening of Wednesday 5th March 2025. This is a perfect opportunity for parents and students to gain an insight into why our fellow Muslim students fast during the month of Ramadan. The Iftar event is open to all students and families (Muslim and non-Muslim) in every year group. Doors open at 5:00pm, the event will begin at 5:20pm, fast opens at 5:56pm, followed by a prayer (for those who wish to). The event will culminate with the opportunity for all attendees to join together for a hot meal.

  • Candle Ceremony Commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day at the Academy

    A moving candle-lit ceremony was held at the Academy to observe Holocaust Memorial Day, honouring the memory of those who suffered under the Nazi regime. This year’s event has special significance as it marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp.

    In a spectacular end-of-term production, Academy students showcased their incredible talent in Fairytale Intertwined. After months of dedication and rehearsals, the students delivered a fantastic performance that captivated an audience of around 100, including parents and staff. The show, which blended classic fairytales in a fresh and exciting way, was met with resounding applause and admiration.

  • Staff and Students Support Fusion Food Bank with Generous Donations

    In a heart-warming initiative to support the local community, the Academy's staff and students joined forces to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries for the Fusion Food Bank in Dewsbury. Mrs Sheard, a Science teacher at the Academy, organised the collection, encouraging each form group to fill a box with donations.

  • Celebrating 60 Years: A Brief History of Thornhill School

    Published 25/11/24

    Thornhill Secondary School, as it was initially named, was officially opened on its present site on the 25th November 1964. At this time, it was part of the County Borough of Dewsbury Education Committee. Kirklees Council did not exist in those days. The school’s former premises on Edge Lane became the local Junior and Infant School, which remains the case today.
