Academy Teachers Perform A Christmas Carol
Year 11 students recently enjoyed a captivating performance of Charles Dickens’ timeless classic, A Christmas Carol, presented by some of their own teachers.
The show, staged by members of the English department, brought to life the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man haunted by four spectral visitors: his former partner, Jacob Marley, and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Through their lessons, Scrooge learns to reflect on his life as Christmas Day approaches, ultimately recognizing the errors of his ways.
Dr Price, an English teacher at the Academy, organised the performance. She explained, “A Christmas Carol is one of our GCSE English Literature set texts. This year, Mr Burton and I decided to ask the English department if they were willing to put on a performance of the novella for our Year 11 students to watch. Luckily, they rose to the challenge! Our students have worked very hard this term and we wanted to give them both a memorable experience and a way to visualise the text beyond reading aloud and watching film adaptations. We are definitely not actors, however, we are very enthusiastic about the texts we teach, and we hope this came through in the performances.”
The audience of students applauded their teachers’ efforts enthusiastically. One Year 11 student shared, “Watching the performance was a fantastic experience. Our teachers did an amazing job and clearly put a lot of effort into making the show great. We really appreciate all they’ve done.”
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the staff who went above and beyond to enrich our students’ learning experiences, as well as to those who assisted behind the scenes to ensure the performance ran smoothly.
