The Academy was transformed into a literary wonderland as part of World Book Day celebrations. The festivities were a vivid testament to the love of reading, with classroom doors adorned in artistic decorations and staff members donning costumes inspired by their favourite literary characters.
The event was co-ordinated by English teacher, Mrs Jack, who thanked staff for their fantastic efforts and told us: “It's been so amazing to see the fabulous costumes worn by staff and the amazingly wonderfully decorated classroom doors.”
Students voted at lunch for the "best dressed" staff member and the three teachers with the winning costumes were: Miss Marsden dressed as Violet Beauregard; Mr Quinn as The Wizard of Oz and Miss Thornton as The Queen of Hearts.
The decorate your door competition was judged by Headteacher, Mr Burton with the following staff recognised for their efforts: Mrs Hollins (Overall winner); Mr Drummond, Mr Chadwick and the ARP (Recognition for form involvement) and Mr Chippendale (Recognition for an innovative idea).
Adding to the celebration was a Bring and Buy Book Sale held in the library, where students had the chance to donate unwanted books and discover new titles for just 50p.
All of the special activities were organised to raise awareness of World Book Day and promote books and the pleasure of reading among Academy students. World Book Day is an annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly reading. Schools and Libraries across the country marked the occasion with lots of fun events and activities.
We were really pleased to hear from students that they greatly enjoyed the contributions made by staff and we are most grateful to our staff for their valuable support in making the event a huge success.
