The work of the Local Governing Body

Governors question, challenge, advise and engage in all aspects of running our academies; checking that leaders' actions are being made in the best interests of children, young people and families. Enclosed is a local governor role profile giving more detailed information.

We are always interested in hearing from potential volunteers who feel they could make a difference to our young people's futures.  If you would like to discuss this further, please contact our Governance Professional, Jayne Newson, on 08452 415175 or email jayne.newson@sharemat.co.uk.

Join Our Local Governing Body – Make a Difference in Your Community!

We are looking for passionate, independent individuals from the local community to join our Governing Body and help shape the future of our academy. If you live or work in the area and are eager to make a positive impact on local education, we want to hear from you!

About the Role:

As a Governor, you will serve as a ‘critical friend’ to the academy, questioning, challenging, and supporting the leadership team to ensure every child has access to an exceptional education in a nurturing, safe environment. You’ll help ensure that the academy remains true to its vision and continues to provide a first-class learning experience for all students.

Governors work within a clear Scheme of Delegation, supporting the Trust Board in achieving the academy’s aims and objectives, and holding leaders accountable for the progress and well-being of every pupil.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong commitment to the academy’s values and strategic direction.
  • A desire to make a difference in your local community.
  • Diverse skills and perspectives to help improve all aspects of the academy, from raising attainment to supporting leadership.

No prior experience is required – we offer full training and support for new Governors. Meeting times, roles and responsibilities vary so we can work with you to choose the most appropriate role depending on your availability, skillset and experience.

What’s Involved:

  • Attend 4 meetings per year (approx. 2 hours each)
  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing papers in advance
  • Opportunity to take on lead roles or join trust board committees, depending on availability and expertise.

Why Join?

  • Play a pivotal role in shaping the future of local education.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated, diverse group of individuals to support and challenge senior leadership.
  • Help support a rich, broad curriculum that empowers students to thrive academically and socially.

Make a Difference in Education with SHARE Multi-Academy Trust!

We are also recruiting Members, Non-Executive Directors, and Independent Members for our Finance and Audit & Risk Assurance Committees.

We are looking for experienced and committed volunteers from a variety of different sectors to help strengthen our governance and guide the vision of our Trust. SHARE Multi-Academy Trust is a partnership of four secondary and four primary academies, and we need your expertise to support the next generation of learners.
