Examinations & Revision
Examinations
To support our vision of educating excellence and to ensure that all our students achieve their absolute best in public examinations at KS4 and beyond, we are committed to ensuring that all our students are as well prepared as they can be for assessments.
Public examinations, whether for GCSE, A Level or BTEC qualifications, can be very stressful, and we know that practice, rather than avoidance, is the key to success.

BTEC - Support for learners on Results Day
Should students require advice or support regarding BTEC qualifications they can contact Pearson, the awarding body.
For further information and advice please follow @BTECStudents or check the student webpage which are both updated regularly with the latest information. If you have any specific questions Pearson can be contacted here, where live chat is also available, or phone them on 0345 618 0440. Phone lines will open at 8:30am on Results Day.
Examination Results Day 2025
GCSE results will be available to collect from the Academy Sports Hall foyer on Thursday 21st August between 9.00 am and 11.00 am.
There will be staff on hand to help students understand their results and to help with any queries they may have. A member of the Careers team will also be on hand to offer any help and guidance about post-16 places.
A parent/carer can collect results on a student’s behalf, but only if they have written permission.
If you have any specific queries regarding examinations at Thornhill Community Academy, please contact our Examinations Officer James MacFaul on James.MacFaul@sharemat.co.uk
Requests for leave during exam time
During Year 10 and 11, students will undertake controlled assessments and mock exams throughout the school year. External exams are timetabled on dates set by the exam boards and cannot be changed. Students cannot arrange to sit exams on different days. For this reason, we stress that holidays/trips must not be booked during term time and any requests for such absences will not be authorised.
