Year 10 Students Excel in Work Experience Programme, Gaining Valuable Insights and Essential Skills for the Future
Year 10 students gained valuable insight into the working world by participating in a comprehensive work experience programme during a week off from their regular lessons. The initiative aimed to provide students with an understanding of various career options and equip them with essential skills for the future.
Notably, many students took the initiative to secure their own external placement, spanning diverse fields such as education, healthcare, architecture, and funeral services. Feedback from the students reaffirmed the programme's positive impact, with many expressing newfound confidence in communicating with others and a clearer vision of their career paths. Miss Walker, the Academy's Careers Leader, expressed her delight at the opportunities the Year 10 students could engage in. She further noted the positive feedback received from placement supervisors about the students' exemplary performance and contributions.
In addition to the external placements, students at the Academy engaged in a wide range of activities designed to cultivate essential skills. These activities included culinary arts, woodworking, marketing and first aid. The week concluded with a special assembly, where students celebrated their successes and received awards for their achievements.
Reflecting on the programme's success, Miss Walker told us: "I'm extremely glad to hear of the fantastic opportunities our Year 10 students received as a result of our recent Work Experience Programme. We have had lots of amazing messages from placements saying how well the students did and the impact they had in the time they were at their placements, which is just lovely to hear."
Ian Harrison, Lead Visualiser of Sten Architecture Ltd, Wakefield, hosted one of our students. He told us: "We've had the pleasure of hosting Dalma for a work experience placement this week."
Mr Harrison went on to tell us: "We want to say that we were really pleased with the effort and attitude that Dalma showed this week. She was friendly and engaging at all times and produced some really good work. She was confident to ask questions if she didn't understand anything. She has been a great ambassador for the school and we hope she enjoyed her time with us."
Dalma was most grateful for the placement opportunity and treated staff to a homemade tiramisu.
The program's resounding success not only provided students with a glimpse into the professional world but also equipped them with invaluable skills. This success is a testament to the program's effectiveness in setting students on a promising career trajectory, ensuring they are well-prepared for fulfilling careers in the future.
